I loved every thing about becoming a new mom! All the hugs, and loves and kisses. The snuggles. The smiles. The newborn baby toes! The all-around journey of motherhood just consumed my heart. I knew I wanted more children, so then came Isabella, and then, Christian. My story is not about motherhood and all its glory. Rather, it’s about the unforeseen journey life took us on when Makayla was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at the age of 10 in April of 2019. It came “out of left field” as they say, and took us by storm for 13 straight months. From the day of diagnoses to her passing in May of 2020, we were catapulted into the dark terrain of bad news, quick decisions, difficult doctor conversations, treatment schedules, scans, long hospital stays, side effects, etc., all the things that one could go through when diagnosed with cancer. It was a whole new life that presented itself to us without warning, without invitation. Instead, my focus is to unfold a journey through the heartache and pain, and reveal how our faith in Jesus provided hope within His promises. My desire in this space, Lord willing, is to draw others to Christ through the unfolding of our storm, as hard as it was, and to express the hope He brought during a time in which we could have easily shattered. Jesus was and is our saving grace. And of course, I’ll also share the “behind the scenes life” of the Coletta household as it is now.
